MF 9250 powershift won’t engage when switching directions

I have this Massey Ferguson 9250 and it's been showing weird behavior that I never saw coming. Every time I switch from forward to reverse or back, the tractor just sits in neutral. Ah, I don't know if that's common or it's my problem but for your info, it happens most of the time unless I restart the engine. And even that just occasionally fixes it. Now, once in gear, it runs smoothly and shifts through ranges fine. I already checked solenoids, wiring, clutch switch, and even swapped out the shift controller just to be sure. Still no change at all. Anyone seen this before?

Have you checked the transmission speed sensor or the range selector position sensor? If the computer isn't getting an accurate signal on what gear it's in, it might default to neutral @Step 1

It sounds like a classic case of electronic overengineering gone stupid. These newer Masseys rely too much on sensors and not enough on common sense, if you've swapped the controller and it's still buggy, blame the ECU

That's strange but still not entirely unheard of with the older powershift units. It sounds like you're losing pressure completely on the forward/reverse clutches when you switch, and it's not rebuilding properly. Have you checked the pressure on the directional clutch packs? The control valve spool might be sticking or the pressure relief valve is opening too early. It's a long shot since you swapped the controller, but check the shuttle valve itself for any debris or scoring. A tiny bit of debris can cause just enough trouble to do exactly what you're describing.
